UST’s first major on-campus film festival
‘Manoro’ and ‘Kubrador’ to be featured at UST CineVita filmfest

To celebrate life, truth, and faith and uphold the cinema as tool of meaningful expression and authentic education, the Varsitarian, the 79-year-old student publication of the University of Santo Tomas, is holding the CineVita film festival on March 7 to 9 at the Thomas Aquinas Research Center, UST campus, Espana, Manila.
The three-day film fest will screen films of various genres, including internationally acclaimed indie movies such as Brillante Mendoza’s Manoro, Rica Arevalo’s ICU Bed #7, and Jeffrey Jeturian’s Kubrador.
The festival will also feature local and international documentaries, shorts, and digital films such as Orasyon by Milo Tolentino, Armed with Hope by John Foppe, Shit Happens by Nich Retz Perez, Ika-Siyam na Palapag by Anna Isabelle Matutina, and Sigaw ko, Pakinggan Mo by Pro-life Philippines.
Prominent personalities will give lectures on film and media ethics, such as Cinemalaya Film Festival vice-president Laurice Guillen, Inquirer editor and Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino film critic Joselito Zulueta, indie film director Rica Arevalo, UST aesthetics professor Josephine Pasricha, and Titus Brandsma Media Center director Fr. Christian Buenafe. Directors of the film will give short talks, and the cast and crew of Manoro and Kubrador, including Jonalyn Ablong and Gina Pareño, will grace the festival.
CineVita
is a non-profit and educational endeavor of the Varsitarian together with the Titus Brandsma Center Media Program, Pro-Life Philippines, UST Institute of Religion, UST Journalism Society and UST Literary Society. All documentaries and local films are open to the public. Foreign full-length films are exclusive to lecturers, film critics, and students. Admission is free.

 
Laurice Guillen to keynote UST CineVita filmfest

FILMMAKER and cinema industry leader Laurice Guillen will keynote the UST CineVita Film Festival on March 7 at the Thomas Aquinas Research Center, University of Santo Tomas, Espana, Manila.
Guillen, the director of Filipino film classics such as “Tanging Yaman,” “Salome” and “American Adobo,” is expected to talk about the power of cinema to make meaningful statements about the human condition.
Organized by the, the Varsitarian, the 79-year-old student publication of UST, CineVita will run on March 7-9.
